fooood

hey y'all
food reviews?!?! what a great idea. so let me continue what taft started.
the "find of the month" for me would be CHURROS at COSTCO. yes, costco. they have the freakin best churros EVER. i'd like to think that i'm an churro expert since i always buy them from those pathetic carts at zoos, amusement parks, and ball games. each time, i am sorely disappointed...actually, i get pissed. but good ole reliable costco (my version of heaven) are now selling churros. AWWWWWWWW - that's the sound of heaven's gate opening.
anyways, if you have $1 and are at costco, i order you to get a churro. nothing better than a warm cinnomon sugar coated deep fried stick of dough that's crispy on the outside and soft inside.
if anyone still reads this, then go now....QUICK

Oh poor blog, what is it going to take to revive thee? A facelift perhaps (ahem ahem)? A new home? I can't believe you're already 3 years old! Where does the time go. Next thing I know, you'll be in your teens and who knows where your mama's and papa's will be.

Oh precious blog, I know I too have neglected thee since the spawn of my own offspring. Please forgive me. But thankfully you have Uncle Jeff and Uncle Phil who periodically check in on you from time to time with stories of cheesy tv and cheesy tunes. Oh lucky you.

But fear not little blog, for I will rally everyone to come to your side like the days of old with tales of the real world, love, friendship, and your personal favorite, public drunkenness.

* * * * * * *

Anyhow, I believe I overheard some people talking over the weekend about reviving this old thing by blogging about their restaurant reviews. I second that. Heck, I'll even start.

For good lunchtime eats on the Embarcadero, hit up Pier 23. On nice days, the seats out back on the patio are prime spots to enjoy the sun and food. You got the waters of the Bay at your side, the sun shining on your face, and a plate full of good eats (I highly recommend their linguine - the chef hooks you up with tons of shrimp, chicken and sausage galore). They got live music playing almost every night and a fully stocked bar. That filipino reggae band Native Elements just played there last weekend. Two thumbs up from me, Taft.

My Song

My Song

Just taking a quick study break.

Everyone knows how much I love ballads and the KOIT-type songs. I would like to think that most people know that I'm a hopeless romantic as well. Well, I finally found a song that is ALL ME in my search for love. I have been burned by girls in the past, but Usher's "Burn" is not appropriate for me. Rascal Flatts' "Bless the Broken Road" has got to be the best song ever! I first heard it on the American Idol finale when Carrie sang it with Rascal Flatts and I thought it sounded good. Didn't really pay attention to it at the time because I thought Carrie was just beautiful singing any song. But my friend made me a CD with the song on it and I can't stop listening to it! The lyrics are awesome, the sound is soothing...the song is beautiful. Please take the time to listen to it...otherwise, you might have to wait some years cuz it's gonna be my wedding song, but my future wife doesn't know it yet. I love this song! I can only smile when I hear it. I sing along with it in the car and I know people drive by and wish that I could serenade them with the song cuz they see the passion and the heart I'm putting into singing this song (along with my hand gestures). As you can guess, the song playing in the background as I type this is this RascalFlatts' song.

Here are the lyrics:
I set out on a narrow way, many years ago
Hoping I would find true love, along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign, pointed straight to you
Every long lost dream lead me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way, into your loving arms
This much I know is trueThat God blessed the broken road
That lead me straight to you

I think about the years I spent, just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost, and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan, that is coming true

Every long lost dream, lead me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way, into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That lead me straight to you

Now I'm just rolling home
Into my lovers arms
This much I know, is trueThat God blessed the broken road
That lead me straight to youThat God blessed the broken road
That lead me straight to you

Milestone

First off, I've been cool not having a job since July 2003. But there's definitely one thing I hate about not having a job. While most people would say not having money is what they would hate, that's not it. I hate not having health insurance! I couldn't even get a freakin' flu shot and I'm in the hospital quite a bit. So, lo and behold, I'm sick as we speak... and I knew it was coming. I worked with a patient (and granted he was really a cool patient) who had pneumonia and COPD and while assessing him on Tuesday, he was coughing pretty much in my face without covering his mouth. I had to take a step back and let him cough. I knew I would get his virus or bacteria...I just felt it coming. And now, I feel really crappy and my throat is killing me. It doesn't help when you're getting phone calls all day as well and talking (or whispering) up a storm.

Milestone/Momentous Moment of the Week:
Where were you last Saturday (Feb. 12, 2005) at 9:30am? Think hard cuz I'll never forget this moment. I was driving on 880 past Southland Mall in Hayward to go to the Oakland Coliseum to attend the A's fanfest with Nick. At that very instant...it happened! What happened? I look down and I see 99,999 turning to 100,000! Whoa my '92 Honda Accord just reached 100,000 miles! I got that car in the summer '98, and after 6.5 years, it finally reached its milestone. When I got it, it only had 16,000 miles. I just wanted to pull over and give its rightful ceremony, but i needed to go to see the a's, my top priority! I just wished I had a camera phone to take a pic.

Don't sleep on the A's this season...they gonna surprise a lot of people. The A's outfielders are some of the funniest people in the world. They're a comedy show in itself. You just had to go to fanfest to enjoy them. During a Q&A session, Nick (who I have given the new nickname "Swish" to - not for his basketballl skills but for Nick Swisher, the A's rookie who is cocky but quite funny) and I were literally laughing for a staight 1 hour and 15 minutes. I can't wait for the A's season to begin!

Man, I can't believe its NBA All-Star weekend. It just crept up on me.

Yo

Phil here posting a quickie blog

Jefe - Stephanie, I can see getting pretty close.. I have to admit, trump needs to pick a woman this time, or I swear Women around the U.S. will be hating him and thinking he's sexist.... I know it's supposed to be whoever ends up being the best, but regardless if it's a woman or not, Trump pick someone freakin' different!!!!!

Tiff- Bachlorette. Ryan and jerry, Jen gotta pick one of the two.. John Paul is so freakin' ugly I have yet to understand why he made top 3... let's see how far Jen goes on these "fantasy suite" dates.

Regan - I sent you a pic or two to put on the site....That looks like most of us.. anyone missing, perhaps you can put another pic on there? I'm still bummed out I did so bad at texas hold 'em for the tournament..
oh well

Can I just say I'm so bummed that freddy and kendra won the amazing race. talk about two undeserving people, her racial comments in africa were most appaling... it sucks that people like that win that big of a prize.... in any case...

Hope all is well!

Blurbage

Blurbage by MC Jizz Cock

1. I once studied in sociology how we should respect the personal space of people. Why the heck did some lady the other morning decide to park her car right next to mine in the hospital's parking lot when all the other spaces were available? I was in the row furthest from the main entrance. I was trying to take a nap cuz I was really early and she woke me up. I'm still bothered as you can see.

2. Ever more reason to watch TRL. On Monday, they introduced a new VJ...Susie Castillo. I can't say that she will ever overtake Vanessa Minnilo, but she is quite easy on the eyes as well. Nice round face, hot curly hair, pretty smile. Can't wait to see her and Vanessa hosting together.

3. Much love goes out to Reeg. Thanks for the Punk/Rock covers and tv themes cd that you burned for me. I've been playing it nonstop in my car this week. I didn't know this, but New Found Glory has all these rock-ish type versions of songs ranging from "I want it that way" (backstreet boys) to "everything I do (i do it for you)" (bryan adams). Like reeg said...it's like koit meeting rock. My personal fave...their cover of "Glory of Love"...i listen to it over and over especially the part when they sing like a choir without any instruments (is that considered acoustic?). And you can't beat mixing in tv themes like "Charles in Charge" theme song and "Believe it or not I'm walking on air" song from the greatest american hero. Fifty plus songs fit onto this cd...i love listening to it.

4. If you ever eat at Nippon Sushi on Skyline off King Drive, I highly recommend their Sirachi Raw plate. Rice with different types of raw fish...ummm ummm good. It's my fave...i always get it....might get it tomorrow. Don't get it cooked...it's not that good cooked as it is good raw. On the side, get some cheap sushi..can't beat their prices and you get good servings (like 16 pieces). Talk about being full after a meal...reeg and I were stuffed (or at least i was).

I want to write more, but I'll save it for next time...it's getting late....i want to sleep....i can actually sleep in (til like 7am) on friday mornings. Don't have to wake up at 4:30 or 5:30 like on Tues-Thurs.

Apprentice Rrecap

Apprentice Recap - Jeff's(not Cliff's)Notes version

What better than a Thursday night after such an exhausting week of school. I can just chill and enjoy my guilty pleasure of watching the Apprentice. Last week, I fell asleep during the show but I was wide awake for this week's episode. Talk about fireworks! I rank this as one of the best episodes in Apprentice history (granted its only the start of the 3rd season). Episode starts off with Verna (of team book smarts) quitting cuz she didn't have the energy (i'm glad she left...she was lame)...she was the first-ever to quit on the show. Talk about team dysfunctionality/disarray. The book smarts team was full of drama as they got outwitted in an advertising/promotional task by the street smarts team. Since the book smarts team won last week's task, their project manager from last week (Michael) was exempt from elimination this week. So he tried to coast this week and was being a punk...drama. This week's project manager, Danny, as eccentric as he is, failed miserably as a leader. So Danny decides to bring in Stephanie (who did a fine job) and Michael into the board room to see who get fired. Pretty much Danny was the only Trump could fire...stupid decision on his part. I must say I'm gonna miss his guitar and the songs he makes up off the top of his head.

With that, let me say this: Stephanie will win this Apprentice. That is my prediction. Much like how Trump fell for Amy in Season 1, the Donald will fall for Stephanie and try to keep her as long as he can. She is quite attractive and plus she looks good in business suits. And on top of that, she wears those black framed glasses. Have I ever mentioned how much I love girls who wear those black framed glasses (on top of girls who wear hoodies and ponytails). Nothing says professional and sexy like them black framed glasses with your hair down and working your ass off. She has the "it" thing to become the first ever female Apprentice. Just tune in and I hope you see what I mean.

Subject: Re: Jeff's last entry

2. Please address me from now on by my new name MC Jizz Cock for those who have been out of the loop.
-->Taft's Response: Insert upchuck reflex here. One word: Grossaroo!

3. The movie, Coach Carter, is good but not spectacular. Inspirational feel good story. Patience if you're not into basketball cuz there's a good amount of b-ball action throughout the film. Acting not great cuz a lot of amateurs but Ashanti impressed me...seemed like a natural on screen.
$6 a good price to pay...so that means matinee! (that rhymed)
-->Taft's Response: Ironically, I found the younger guys to be decent actors and Ashanti to suck. Her character annoyed the shit outta me. Also, that guy Worm plays a basketball player on One Tree Hill too.  Just had to add the OTH shout out there.

4. Actually found 2 shows that I must watch which aren't really reality shows. I just love extreme makeover: home edition. guaranteed tear jerkers every week. amazing what they can build in 7 days. Followed by Desperate Housewives. I know I'm late on this but I have really gotten into this show. A myriad of characters but each has a well-developed storyline and these actresses play their characters perfectly. The comedy is quite witty...I find myself laughing or so intrigued after each scene. The writing is superb...it keeps me "desperate" to know what's going to happen next.
-->Taft's Response: Still curious to watch this show, considering so many people I know are tuning in. Anyone have the past episodes taped? I have't watched anything of this series yet, but I already don't like all the comparisons to Sex and the City. Especially the bit about Eva Longoria being the new SJP? I don't think so. Her Golden Globes dress was a total knockoff (style-wise) of a dress SJP wore to some major awards show last year. Just another reason for me to not like Eva (the 1st being of course that she's supposedly dating my JC. Even though she keeps denying it and says she'd rather a) "entertain" herself with her rabbit or b) date guys younger than 25, older than 40. Ok someone really needs to pull me away from all the gossip magazines.

5. I know she's already been claimed by another blogger, but Vanessa Minnilo is just too damn hizzot! Her smile captivates me...when she smiles, she lures me in....I love it! 2 reasons to watch TRL: Her and "Beautiful Soul" song. I love how Vanessa uses her hands when she talks...it's so cute. She has a southern ghetto twang to her voice...sexy. I'm in love. I'm too old for TRL but I still watch.
-->Taft's Response: Been hearing that "Beautiful Soul" song more these days and thank the lord....I still don't like it. Sorry Jeff, not gonna happen. :-)

9. Suggested New Year's Resolution for me made by my classmate: I need to find a girl kinda opposite from me to balance me out. So if you guys are willing to help me out, you can find me a serious, not corny, mean, hates to smile, hates to bowl, likes to read-type of girl.
-->Taft's Response: Then your "dream" girl would also have to hate Duke basketball, KOIT music, and cheesy teen pop, yeah?

Subject: RE: Phil's Reality Roundup

.. "funny how they did shirts/skins for the basketball game.. obviously they picked the tanned/buffed ones for skins..... which was definitely a ++"
Taft's Response: Insert drool response here. That was a sad ass game on the shirts part. Ryan, he's my pick to win.

.... "lame.... pls tell me they won't put it on for awhile. I read somewhere Real World is going to be on till at least 2008... someone pls shoot me and tell me why this has been for so long..."
Taft's Response: Where in the world are they gonna keep filming the Real World?? Heard the next one is in Texas. MTV should change things up and do the next season Surreal Life style and get all the trouble makers to live together in a house. Sadly enough, I probably would watch it. P.S. The Philly season sucks major ass!!!

"Project Runway (Bravo 9pm (rerun at 11pm) on Wednesday)
If none of you have watched it, it was so a must-see show..It's about 12 designers vying for a chnace to start their own clothing line and get mentoring from Banana Republic."
Taft's Response: I am so bummed that I can't watch this show. Damn South City Comcast doesn't give us Bravo! It looks like it would be such an interesting show. I'll have to wait for it on DVD, since every frikkin show's on DVD these days.

Gotta go, the O.C. is calling for me! (insert the theme song to the O.C., "California" by Phantom Planet, here) Good lord I watch a lot of TV. California here we come, right back where we started from.....

Reality Overload!

OH GEEZ,

I can't believe all my favorite shows are on.... My blog will totally be about that all but before I do, I must say jefe, you're new name is hysterical. I couldn't stop laughing.... Between you and tiff, you guys both make me laugh!

Ok so the rundown on reality shows

The Bachelorette - (Monday 9pm ABC)

Ok so is it me or is just Jerry the hottest out of everyone on the show... he is definitely top 3... (I want to see if his family is just as hot).... I think Ryan and Perhaps Ben will make final 3..... For some strange reason, I think Ryan might win.. which I'll be happy with b/c he's cute too and seems cool.... funny how they did shirts/skins for the basketball game.. obviously they picked the tanned/buffed ones for skins..... which was definitely a ++

Battle of the Sexes: MTV (ended good!)
- I have to say the biggest letdown in TV history.... This was so awful... I could bet my life the girls had no chance in winning.. c'mon you got Arissa "i can't do anything, and I look like I"m drugged out", Sophia, "I'm so noble but really haven't done anything spectacular" and Coral "I've made it 3 times to the final and lost each time"... I think just Coral alone should have signified a loss (it's almost like she's the michelle kwan of these challenges) and to top it all off... the girls didn't even do the final challenege b/c they couldnt' find a stupid key.... lame.... pls tell me they won't put it on for awhile. I read somewhere Real World is going to be on till at least 2008... someone pls shoot me and tell me why this has been for so long...

American Idol: (Tuesday and Wednesday 8-9 FOX)

I must agree that American Idol is way over the top with these early episodes.. can you just show only obnoxious people... geez louise.... every city has had approx 20-30 people get into the next round yet they show maybe 3-4 ???? but they have like 20-30 awful ones.. why waste your time on ALL of the bad talent... talk about a ratings ploy... I did like last night next-round group they did show, they all seemed like they had potential.. even the bigger girl... =)

Project Runway (Bravo 9pm (rerun at 11pm) on Wednesday)
If none of you have watched it, it was so a must-see show..It's about 12 designers vying for a chnace to start their own clothing line and get mentoring from Banana Republic. Kara Saun, one of the 12, by far should win this competition hands down. If you look at her designs, they are so spectacular, they far outshine the rest of the competition... Otherwise I would have to go with Jay, I dress like Jesus, he's hysterical and has awesome outfits..you must watch this show, they are down to final 5!

Lost and Alias (Wednesday 8 and 9pm , ABC)

I'll put these both together (even though they are not reality shows) these are so well-written, I love it... In lost, it's like reality TV turned real drama series..... I can't wait to find out what' sreally happening on the island... it's like the x-files... it's almost supernatural (anyone know what happened in the end of x-files by the way).... and Matthew Fox is really hot, so I love just watching him..... what's up with the polar bear on an island anyway....
Alias is so cool, I can't believe I haven't watched every episode.. it's like my new buffy... girl chick who kicks ass and has great lines.... and plus her sidekick michael vaughn is so hot... ever since I saw "never been kissed" I've been amazed by him... these 2 shows rocks

Apprentice. (Thursday 9pm NBC)

I must agree Jefe,I love this show as well. I'm surprised at how fast they are turning aroudn these shows.. it's crazy.. I could have sworn last week Kelly from season 2 just got hired.. but I guess the networks are trying to throw in as much reality before it becomes post-peak... I am not sure who I am rooting for... since I consider myself book smart vs street smart... part of me feels I'm obligated to root for someone there... (and plus they dont' make as much so they are the underdog).. oh well. we'll see.... I just hope they pick another look-a-like to bill or kelly.. b/c they are very similar in appearance.. maybe perhaps a woman or a person of color for once?

Amazing Race 7 (tuesday 9pm on CBS)
So sad this past week, they were in Sri Lanka, and most of the places they went to during the race were destoryed by the tsunami.. I still have to donate some money to the relief efforts.. it's so crazy what happened over there.... in any case back to the show.. I"m glad that abusive Jonathan finally got booted. him and victoria are psycho, they both deserve each other..... It's so funny how the 4 couples left are all young couples.... talk about homogeneous... .can I say Kris/Jon to win!!! they are the hottest and they never bicker.... they need to do more swimming competitions so we can see them with less clothes on.. ha! and amazing race 8 is returning again in march, so there will be one right after this!

and FINALLY
Desparate Housewives (Sunday 9pm ABC)
This show is worth watching. I still think this show should have been on HBO/SHOWTIME so it could be more racy/edgy, but it'll do for now... I love watching Teri Hatcher, she's one of my faves.... and can we have more of the hot gardener in more scenes. jesse Metcalf is great and have been watching him ever since he was on PASSIONS.... This show is too good to miss

Ok in any case... that's it for me now.. until later adieu!

Quickie

Quickies by MC Jizz Cock (aka jefe)

1. Welcome back to Blogland, Phil! Look out for a new quiz in the near future. Can't say when cuz school is picking up, but I'll try to get one out there. Don't know any topics yet...any suggestions?
2. Please address me from now on by my new name MC Jizz Cock for those who have been out of the loop.

6. Video rental suggestion of the week: Girl Next Door. I'd love to date a porn star not for her job but for who she is outside of her profession. Sun Hi Lee is in the movie for those who owned East Meets West calandars from a few years ago.
7. Too much for my prediction made last Feb 1, 2004 (date of last year's Super Bowl). I predicted that the Vikings and Colts would make the SB. Possibility for a little bit but never panned out. Pats vs. Eagles...I hope T.O. returns but gotta root for the pats ( 6 point favorites as of yesterday). they're the epitome of team.
8. After only the 1st episode...i'm so much more into Apprentice 3 than Apprentice 2. I love Book Smarts vs Street Smarts...clever clever clever.
9. Suggested New Year's Resolution for me made by my classmate: I need to find a girl kinda opposite from me to balance me out. So if you guys are willing to help me out, you can find me a serious, not corny, mean, hates to smile, hates to bowl, likes to read-type of girl.
10. Random SI classmate sighting last week. I was driving to the hospital and at a red light; guess who's in the lane next to me...it's Franz Wolf! Said quick hellos...he was off to work...good to see my fellow Aggie!
11. I love our new treadmill! Its got me working out again and I don't even have to leave home.

This was suppposed to be a quickie, but as what I'm known for by the ladies, I can just go on and on. I was supposed to type for a minute but I ain't no one-minute man.

So, I guess y'all have to find me a one-minute girl (never heard of that...that'd be a new one for me).

Happy New Year! I'm Back!

Bonjour to everyone!

I see that people have started to blog again on the site, so I thought I'd do a quick hello to all...
jefe, love your quizzes, can you do another quiz again, and have us answer it while we are at work?

Taft, love how you answered all of jefe's quiz questions, did you need any help at all? or was it all by memory.. amazing.....

So in any case, I'm getting excited about Dan's poker tourney.. which is next saturday, the 29th..... I hope I do at least top 10 again like I did last time, but hopefully it won't last till 2:30 in the morning, that is way too much to be playin... I think I might take Mr. Madison with me this time.... but hopefully he won't be too much of a distraction...

Ok, well I'm signing out now... but I will be back. hope to hear from someone soon!

FYI

Taft - I'm not a fan of Lindsay Lohan, but I am sure a fan of Cady Heron, her character in mean girls. So please do not put her picture on my new blogsite, but feel free to put the picture of my new girlfriend (Christina Milian) on there. Dip it low! Five-Five with caramel complexion.

Speaking of X-Tina Milian, she's gonna be in a new movie with the premise of trying to find the next big star. Some big names in the film but can't remember them from the trailer. Speaking of films (what a segue...pronounced seg-way), I saw 2 (yes, 2) on New year's Day: The Life Aquatic (starring Bill Murray) and Meet the Fockers (starring Teri Polo and some other no-names). I'm a proud to say that I only fell asleep for the first 10 minutes of Life Aquatic. And who can blame me...I just had a Fuddruckers burger.

Now for the critique:
Life Aquatic - odd, strange, dark film but quite hilarious if you're into corny comedy which I'm all about. Bill Murray plays Steve Zissou and follows him on an aquatic adventure for a sea creature that completely devoured his buddy. Bill Murray has great timing and makes for many funny moments. Patience is needed for this film...there are times when this film feels like it's going nowhere but there is ultimately a purpose/story to the film by the end. Surprise of the film = pirates who speak tagalog (or should I quote one of the characters, "They're speaking filipino.") I was tripping out cuz I could understand what they were saying and they were actually being interpreted correctly. Supporting cast - Owen Wilson, Jeff Goldblum, Angelica Huston, Byron Dafoe (or something like that...you'll recognize him)
3.5/5 sailboats

Meet the Fockers - First off, I have never seen Meet the Parents completely...I've only seen bits and pieces. But I decided to still watch this flick. With just a few loose ends and tidbits I found out after the flick that related to Meet the Parents, one is able to watch this film and not worry about not having seen the first one. The cast is all-star and play their roles to a tee. Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand are wonderful as Gaylord/Greg's (or should I say Greglord's) parents. Deniro continues to be the soon-to-be father in law you wish you never had. Makes you wonder how these two families would ever get along in real life. Many LMAO moments...must see. However, sad to see that male nurses get such a bad name :( I'm more than happy to watch it again! (4/5 syringes)

Not much of a critique...needs work...first time ever doing this....but didn't want to give away the films. I just wanted y'all to go out and see these 2 flicks (not too many other good movies out right now).

The "WTF" moment: So I watched these flicks at Bay St. Theaters in E-ville (an AMC place). What happened to all the movie trivia and ads before that start of the film? Now they play commercials for TV shows...I must've seen the commercial for alias like 10 times.

And hope to see you at the movies,
Jefe
